Walkie Talkies Celebrate 13 Years

More Than a Walking Group

The Walkie Talkies, a much-loved walking group at Caloundra Shopping Centre, recently celebrated an incredible milestone: 13 years of weekly walks together (Tuesday's & Thursdays). Ten local ladies, all now enjoying retirement, gathered at the centre to mark the occasion with plenty of laughter, stories, and shared memories.

The celebration was true to their spirit — coffee, donuts, and homemade cakes brought in by members themselves. As a gesture of appreciation, the centre added a small surprise: each walker received a $50 gift card and a custom Walkie Talkies t-shirt.

For organiser Faye, the recognition was a meaningful moment: “It was such a lovely surprise to be recognised today. We’re so grateful to Caloundra Shopping Centre for celebrating us. Our walking group means the world to us — it keeps us active, connected, and laughing every week.”

Among the original members is Christine, who has been walking since the very first day. Alongside her are Pam, Lee, Glenda, Vicenta, Lauretta, Robyn, Margaret, Murle, and Faye — each bringing their own energy but all sharing the same passion for staying active and connected.

Over the years, the Walkie Talkies have become more than a walking group; they’re a symbol of community spirit in Caloundra, showing how friendship, fitness, and fun can carry people through every season of life. And as their steps continue, so too does their story of resilience, health, and togetherness.
