Meet Jon at
Specsavers
From childhood visits to Caloundra Shopping Centre to returning decades later as Retail Director and co-owner of Specsavers, Jon’s story is one of community, family and coming full circle.

Jon has called Caloundra home for almost 30 years, living only a few houses away from the shopping centre and watching both the centre and the wider community evolve around him.
He remembers visiting the centre during its Sunland days and even has a childhood photograph standing outside with his mum and dad when he was four years old. Years later, he recreated the same photograph with his own two young children.
Returning as Retail Director and co-owner of the new Specsavers Caloundra Shopping Centre has made the journey feel like a true full-circle moment. Jon co-owns the business with Nathan, the store’s Optometry Director and Annette, the Audiology Director.
His family’s connection to the centre spans generations. Jon’s mum still works in the fresh produce department at Coles, while his grandfather worked as a baker for approximately 20 years.

A Career Focused on Helping People
Healthcare has always been important to Jon. With close to a decade of experience at Specsavers, he has built a broad career across optical dispensing, laboratory operations and retail leadership.
Jon is a qualified dispensing optician with a specialist focus on lens design and manufacture. Along the way he has completed several management degrees and professional development courses through the career path offered by Specsavers.
What has kept him passionate about the industry is knowing that every customer is different. Every pair of glasses, eye examination or urgent consultation can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
“Every customer is different and every pair of glasses makes a difference in some way. Sometimes, the emergency patients we see can involve literally saving someone’s vision.”
— Jon
Bringing Accessible Eye Care to Caloundra
Since opening in June 2026, Specsavers Caloundra Shopping Centre has received an incredible response from the local community.
Jon believes accessibility has been a major part of that response. With the nearest Specsavers located at Currimundi, the new store now provides an even more convenient and affordable eye-care option right in the heart of Caloundra.
For Jon, Nathan, Annette, and the team, the goal is to make quality eye care easier to access while ensuring every customer feels listened to, supported and understood.

Healthcare First, Retail Second
One thing Jon wishes more customers understood is that Specsavers is first and foremost a healthcare provider.
The team can assist with urgent concerns such as sudden changes in vision, foreign objects in the eye or symptoms that may require immediate attention. Where appropriate, customers can seek advice about their eye health from the optometry team, rather than waiting for a general practitioner appointment.
The store’s OCT technology captures detailed images of the eye and retina, helping optometrists identify and monitor conditions including retinal damage and indicators associated with broader health concerns such as diabetes.
The team’s primary goal is simple: changing lives through better sight and hearing.
Something Unexpected
The Story Behind the Suit
Although customers usually see Jon wearing a suit, they may be surprised to learn that he is covered in tattoos, including a pair of blue glasses inspired by his Specsavers journey.
Personal Connection
A Passion for Hearing Care
As someone who wears hearing aids himself, Jon has a personal connection to hearing care and is passionate about how far modern hearing technology has progressed.
Children’s Eye Health
Myopia Management
Jon is also passionate about myopia management for children, helping families access options designed to support and maintain their child’s vision as they grow.
Outside Work
Family, Beaches and LEGO
When he is not at work, Jon is most likely spending time with his wife and two young children, heading to the beach or building plenty of LEGO.
